Compact Smart Green Resilient
Compact City is the defacto development paradigm in Hong Kong, with only 25% of its landmass as built up area and only 7 to 8% landmass developed for residence, it is one of the cities with the highest population density.
The perils and promises of compact city are both many. The city challenge addresses several of the former:
1) municipal solid wastes management
2) wastes to energy
3) sharing and circular economy
4) mitigation and adaptation of local climate (heat stresses) and their synergies
5) compacty city resiliency to combined local and globla climate changes
6) economic and community development
A high population density city also has high density of human resources and faciliates the generation and diffusion of knowledge, let us now seriously put them to bear to solve the potentail perils of compact city and make our city sustainable!
